Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD reported that its overseas shipments rose more than seventy percent in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, reaching close to 800,000 units. The company is targeting up to 1.6 million vehicles sold abroad over the full year, roughly fifty percent above its 2025 export total. Domestic sales inside China fell over the same stretch, making international markets the primary growth driver. BYD's results reflect a broader national trend: total Chinese passenger EV exports hit a single-month record in May 2026, valued at approximately US$9.2 billion. Chinese-branded electric vehicles are gaining market share in Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and parts of Europe. Several governments have introduced import tariffs or other trade measures in response, but overall export volumes have continued to climb.
